Kim –
There’s a reason the La Aroma de Cuba Original remains a staple in my humidor year after year. While newer blends come and go, this remains the gold standard for what a rich, traditional Nicaraguan cigar should be.
Right away, the dark, toothy Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper caught my eye—it has that rugged, oily texture that promises a bold experience. The pre-light aroma was heavy with notes of rich earth and barnyard sweetness, which carried over perfectly once I toasted the foot.
The first light greeted me with a signature blast of black pepper—that classic Don Pepin Garcia ‘punch’—but it quickly settled into a smooth, buttery profile of dark chocolate and espresso. It’s a medium-to-full body smoke, but it never feels overwhelming because the flavors are so well-balanced.
By the midpoint, a distinct notes of black cherry and molasses started to peek through the earthiness. The construction was flawless, as expected; the draw was effortless, and it produced thick, white clouds of aromatic smoke that filled the room.
The finish was long and clean, leaning into a charred oak and leather profile that lasted well after I put it down. It’s a robust, honest cigar that doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t—it’s just pure, high-quality tobacco.
Whether you’re a seasoned smoker or just getting into Nicaraguan sticks, this is a ‘must-have.’ It’s the perfect companion for a late-night espresso or a bold peated scotch.”
