    The Sophisticated Dark Classic
    Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
”I’ve always respected the Ashton Classic, but the Ashton Aged Maduro is where the brand really shows its depth. It’s rare to find a Maduro that is this rich in flavor while remaining so incredibly smooth on the palate.
The first thing that grabs you is the wrapper—a dark, toothy Connecticut Broadleaf that has been fermented to a beautiful espresso color. It’s oily to the touch and has a heavy, sweet aroma of raisins and dark cocoa even before you light it up.
The first third opens with a surprising creaminess. You expect a heavy ‘punch’ from a wrapper this dark, but instead, you get a silky wave of milk chocolate and toasted nuts. There’s a very faint black pepper on the retrohale, but it’s more of a ‘whisper’ than a kick.
As you move into the second third, the sweetness deepens into notes of black cherry and molasses. The construction is exactly what you expect from a Fuente-rolled cigar: a razor-straight burn and an effortless draw that produces thick, aromatic smoke. It’s a medium-bodied experience, but the flavors are ‘full-sized.’
The finish is clean and slightly woody, with a lingering hint of coffee bean. It never gets bitter, even when you’re down to the nub.
This is my absolute favorite ‘dessert’ cigar. It pairs brilliantly with a glass of port or a sweet Zacapa rum. If you’ve been intimidated by dark cigars in the past, start here—it’s the most refined Maduro on the market.”
