Richard –
I’ve been following the Pepin Garcia and Ashton collaborations for years, but the Pasión feels like the pinnacle of their partnership. From the moment I took it out of the humidor, the craftsmanship was evident. The wrapper is a gorgeous, oily shade of marbled brown—it looks as premium as it feels in the hand.
The cold draw gave off distinct notes of cedar and a hint of sweetness, but the real magic happened at the light. The first third is incredibly smooth, offering a rich profile of smoked almond and leather. Unlike some Nicaraguan puros that hit you with immediate spice, the Pasión is refined. The ‘spice’ here is more like a subtle black pepper that sits perfectly in the background.
By the second third, the body shifted into a solid medium-full. I picked up a beautiful creamy cocoa note that lingered on the finish. The burn line was razor-sharp—I didn’t have to touch it up once—and the ash held firm for over an inch, showing just how well-constructed these are.
The final third brought it all together with a bit more intensity—espresso and earthiness—but it never became harsh. It’s a sophisticated smoke that demands you take your time with it.
If you appreciate a cigar that balances power with complexity, this is it. It’s easily earned a permanent spot in my rotation. Pairs perfectly with a clean pour of aged bourbon.”
