    Tim –

I’ll be honest—when I first saw the Montecristo branding on a Nicaraguan puro, I was skeptical. But the ‘Nicaragua’ series is a completely different beast than the classic lines. You can feel the influence of A.J. Fernandez from the first puff. It’s a full-bodied, unapologetic smoke that starts with a punch of black pepper and deep, roasted espresso.
What makes this a standout for me, however, is the evolution. It doesn’t stay a ‘pepper bomb’ for long. By the second third, the spice settles into a rich, creamy profile—think dark cocoa, charred oak, and a subtle, malty sweetness that really balances out the intensity. The construction is exactly what you’d expect from the Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez factory: razor-sharp burn, dense white ash, and a draw that’s perfectly open. It’s a modern classic that proves Montecristo can hold its own in a market saturated with bold Nicaraguan blends.
