Steve –
After hearing the hype about this being a #1 Cigar of the Year, I finally sat down with the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Maestro, and it absolutely lived up to the pedigree. This isn’t just a cigar; it’s a dynamic performance from start to finish.
The box-press construction is flawless—firm, square, and wrapped in a dark, oily leaf that looks like it belongs in a museum. The cold draw gave me immediate notes of sweet tobacco and cedar, but the real show started at the light.
The first third opens with a ‘big’ profile—a lot of rich dark chocolate and toasted almonds, balanced by a sophisticated hit of white pepper. It’s full-bodied but incredibly smooth; it doesn’t bite, it just commands your attention.
As I moved into the second third, the complexity really ramped up. The chocolate notes stayed, but they were joined by a beautiful savory-sweet mix of espresso and a hint of caramel. The burn was razor-straight, and the draw was perfect—no resistance, just thick, creamy clouds of smoke.
The final act was the best part. The flavors intensified into a deep, earthy finish with notes of leather and a unique touch of star anise. It stayed cool all the way to the nub, never getting harsh or bitter.
This is a powerhouse smoke, so make sure you’ve had a good meal first. It’s the perfect companion for a celebratory night out or a quiet hour of reflection with a bold peated Scotch. If you call yourself an aficionado, you need a box of these in your rotation.”
