If you want to know what real, old-world Cuban-seed tobacco tastes like, you have to smoke the Aganorsa Leaf Validacion Corojo. Aganorsa is famous for growing the best leaf in Nicaragua, and this stick is the ultimate showcase of their craft.
The first thing I noticed was the wrapper—a gorgeous, reddish-brown Corojo ’99 leaf that is smooth to the touch with very fine veins. The pre-light aroma was sweet, like graham cracker and hay.
The first light was a ‘flavor bomb.’ I got an immediate hit of that signature Aganorsa spice—a mix of red pepper and cinnamon—but it was wrapped in a creamy, nutty sweetness. It’s a medium-to-full-bodied start that feels incredibly ‘chewy’ and rich.
By the second third, the spice backed off just enough to let notes of roasted cashews and cedar take the lead. The construction was perfect; the draw had just the right amount of resistance, and it produced a mountain of thick, white smoke.
The final third is where the Corojo really shines. It gets darker and more savory, with a hint of sourdough bread and leather. It finished cool and firm, never getting bitter even at the nub.
This is a ‘connoisseur’s’ cigar. It’s complex, changing flavors every few inches, and perfectly balanced. I paired this with a light Highland Scotch, and the honey notes in the whisky brought out the floral sweetness of the Corojo beautifully.
If you appreciate the heritage of Nicaraguan tobacco, this belongs in your humidor. It’s a masterclass in blending.”
