New World Cameroon by AJ Fernandez – The Sweet & Spicy Standout
I’ve been a fan of the New World series for a long time, but the New World Cameroon is easily the most unique blend in the lineup. It’s the first time AJ Fernandez has used an African Cameroon wrapper, and he absolutely nailed it.
The first thing you notice is that silky, toothy wrapper. It’s a bit thinner than his usual Nicaraguan leaves, so you have to treat it with a little more respect, but the flavor it brings is worth it. Right from the first light, you get this beautiful hit of natural sweetness—think graham cracker and honey—balanced by a sharp, zesty spice that isn’t overwhelming.
As you get into the second third, the Nicaraguan binder and fillers really start to hum. You get those classic AJ notes of cedar, roasted nuts, and coffee beans, but that Cameroon leaf keeps everything bright and clean. It’s a medium-bodied smoke, so it doesn’t punch you in the face, but it has enough complexity to keep you interested for the whole hour.
Why It’s a Must-Have:
Unique Wrapper: The African Cameroon leaf adds a floral and sweet dimension you don’t find in the original New World.
Perfect Balance: It strikes that “sweet and spicy” chord perfectly without becoming bitter.
Top-Tier Value: Like the rest of the New World line, the construction is flawless (razor-sharp burn line) at a price that makes it an easy every-day smoke.
The “Morning” Cigar: Because it’s medium-bodied and has those sweet cedar notes, it pairs incredibly well with a cup of coffee.
If you’re used to the heavy, “all-throttle” Nicaraguan blends, this is a great change of pace. It’s elegant, consistent, and proof that AJ can master any leaf he touches.
